5 Of the Best Summer Styles

Whilst the fashion world is already thinking about next summer’s styles, we shoppers are more concerned with the here and now. Here are a few style treats that are already on offer for Spring/Summer 2012:

1. Holiday Chic
The summer can only mean one thing: holidays! Unpredictable English weather can often force us abroad for guaranteed sun and golden sandy beaches, but there’s no excuse for leaving your style at home. From oversized seventies-style sunhats to bold printed playsuits, there’s something out there for every type of holiday. Orange and fuchsia themed prints are set to be huge this year and ideal if you’re jetting off to exotic destinations. Cat-eye sunglasses are also a great retro touch for Audrey Hepburn-inspired glamour.

2. Colour Splash

Mix and match the shades in your outfits to create a low-key tropical look, or go all out with a colour-clashing print. If you’re looking for a more subtle look check out the summer collection of Lipsy dresses, which feature satin, chiffon and body-con designs.

3. Ankle Socks
This summer it’s time to be demure, as covering up the ankle with a cute pair of socks is the hip new thing. Everywhere you turn ankle socks are adding a pop of colour to spring and summer looks. Pair with some killer platform shoes and you’re on your way to super-style heaven.

4. Roaring 1920s
Ahead of the new big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby later this year, the fashion world has gone mad for all things 1920s. This means elegant creams and ivory colours, plenty of sequins and understated jewellery. Don’t forget to top off the ‘Jazz Age’ look with a classic dropped-waist dress, shawl and long necklace.

5. Midi Skirts
Angelina Jolie has tried it, Lady Gaga has tried it and you could as well. The midi skirt is making its way to the frontline of summer fashion. From block coloured skirts to pleated midis, the calf-length skirt is a keeper for 2012.

6. Sun-Kissed
Put down the fake tan and think about your options before you commit fashion suicide. This season’s must have colour is orange; whether it’s a deep autumn burn or a sunset glow. This doesn’t mean you want it all over your body though!
